Three Balluster Vases

A set of three unusually tall baluster vases, with a slim trumpet neck. The bulbous main body, is decorated with a dense pattern of lotus scrolls, large peony blooms and qilong dragons. The reserved panels are in the shape of triple gourd vases, decorated with archaic vases and auspicious objects from the Hundred Antiquities.

The bases carry the etched inventory number from the collection of Augustus the Strong N:49.vvv – the zigzag line indicating the category Blue and White East Indian Porcelain. The current Royal Porcelain Collection in Dresden has a set of three identical vases.
