A Rich History

Since 1968

Vanderven Oriental Art was founded on the auspicious day 8 -8-1968 - year of the monkey - by Clemens van der Ven and his sister Bea. Starting out as a general antiques shop, their drive, passion and eye for beautiful objects quickly earned them a a loyal client base and excellent reputation. In the subsequent years, his wife Neeltje joined the business; during a trip to the Far East in the 1980’s, they became so enthusiastic about Chinese art, that they decided to focus on this area. Now, after nearly 50 years in the business, Vanderven Oriental Art is considered one of the world’s leading international dealers in this specialist field.

From inception, the business has always been based in the beautiful medieval city of ’s-Hertogenbosch - the birthplace of the famous painter Hieronymus Bosch. It is ideally located for our international activities and only a short distance away from major European cities such as Amsterdam, Brussels, Cologne and Düsseldorf.

Since 2007

In 2007, the business moved to a new gallery, housed in a refurbished grammar school dating from 1880. Here we exhibit our diverse collection, organise exhibitions and host events. We attend and participate in important events worldwide including TEFAF Maastricht - of which Vanderven was one of the founding dealers. We also show in other first-class events such as Fine Arts Asia (Hong Kong). With all our activities, we aim to reach a broad international public, enabling us to share our collection, knowledge and enthusiasm with the world.
