Specialisation & Collection
Vanderven Oriental Art specialises in Asian art with an emphasis on Chinese export porcelain, and occasionally Chinese porcelain made in the Chinese taste dating from the 17th and 18th century. An impressive selection of terracotta sculptures dating from the Han (206 BC - AD 220) and Tang Dynasties (618 - 907) ranging from (prancing) horses, farm animals, fat ladies and vessels can be found in the collection. Another range of objects we offer for sale includes Chinese works of art such as early bronzes, Jade and lacquer ware.
Gallery & Fairs
the business is run from a spacious gallery and offices, housed in a
refurbished grammar school dating from 1880. Here we exhibit our diverse collection,
organise exhibitions and host events; always delighted to welcome people to
this beautiful space. We also attend and participate in important events
worldwide including the TEFAF Maastricht - of which Vanderven was one of the
founding dealers. We also show in other first-class events such as Fine Arts
Asia (Hong Kong) and TEFAF New York. With all our activities, we aim to
reach a broad international public, enabling us to share our collection,
knowledge and enthusiasm with the world.
History & Background
Vanderven Oriental Art was founded in 1968 as a general antiques business by Clemens van der Ven and his sister Bea. When Bea left in 1972 , his wife Neeltje van der Ven, (who also had a background in antiques) joined the firm. After a few years they decided to specialise in Asian Art. In 1993, nephew Floris van der Ven also become part of this family-run business. Today Vanderven Oriental Art is considered one of the worlds leading international dealers in the field of Chinese export porcelain and early terracotta. Clemens van der Ven was instrumental in the establishment of one of the best art and antiques fair in the world: TEFAF Maastricht and also the national antiques fair Pan Amsterdam.

Expertise & Service
Foremost owning a ‘Vanderven’should always bring great pleasure, as well as cultural interest. Our philosophy is that buying good quality antiques is wise choice - as you have not only have spent your money soundly, and can enjoy the object in your home as well. Antiques are also an extremely ‘green’ product, having already been appreciated and treasured for many years; before being lovingly passed on to the next generation. We always provide all the academic information with the purchased object in a written report. Early terracotta wares are also generally supplied with an original thermo luminescence test. Additional services we can provide or advise on include consignment sales, authentication and insurance appraisals, collection inventories & cataloguing, advice on display and lighting, shipping and storage, restorations and conservation.
